The Nagorno-Karabakh region was entirely claimed by and partially controlled by the breakaway Republic of Artsakh, but was recognized internationally as part of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan gradually re-established control over Nagorno-Karabakh region and the seven surrounding districts.

After the Holocaust, world leaders agreed, “Never again.” After Rwanda, they said, “Never again.” But when an ancient Christian community was driven out of the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan last year, the world’s great powers did little more than issue press releases.

Since 2000, 62,000 Christians in Nigeria have been murdered in genocide perpetrated by Islamist jihadist groups including Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), and Fulani militias. The International Committee for Nigeria refers to this genocide as the “Silent Slaughter.”

Nigeria remains the deadliest place for Christians, with 4,118 Christians murdered for their faith there from October 2022 through September 2023, persecution watchdog Open Doors reported in its 2024 World.
