Amherst County, VA — July 2, 2025 — Neighbors Helping Neighbors of Amherst County (NHN) is excited to announce the expansion of its Food Mission with the addition of NHN 4 KIDS, a weekend food bag program dedicated to supporting students across Amherst County. Formerly known as Amherst Cares, this vital initiative will provide approximately 589 students each week with nutritious food bags to take home over the weekend.
“We are honored to carry on a program that, for 15 years, has focused on the welfare of Amherst County’s children and students,” said Garry Friend, President of Neighbors Helping Neighbors. “This effort fits perfectly within our mission. Programs like NHN 4 KIDS are not government-funded, so we rely on the generosity of our community for financial and food donations. Time and again, the people of Amherst County and the surrounding areas have stepped up to help their neighbors.”
NHN encourages community members to visit the NHN 4 KIDS page on their website to view a list of needed food items. In addition to donations, volunteers are needed to help pack and distribute the bags to local schools each week.
“As you have done before, join us in helping to continue this important program for the kids,” added Friend.
