My grandfather, Mr Shiva Prasad Neupane, worked in the Nepali Armed Forces and was interested in farming as a hobby.
About our founder
My grandfather used to bring home many seeds from his work travels.
Among them was coffee.
When those plants grew, he would share them with his friends, and it was highly praised. From that, his interest grew and in 1990, he started a farm.
One time, I was drinking coffee near my college. I had paid a high price and the coffee was not so good. Suddenly I recalled my grandpa's coffee; it was so smooth and sweet, the finest coffee.
Once I finished my education, I started various businesses but was drawn to agriculture in Nepal. I could see a lot of potential for coffee production.
So, I opened a coffee shop, before expanding to a coffee farm. I wanted to promote local farmers for quality single origin coffee production.
Himshikhar is a Sanskrit word; him means “snow”, and shikhar means “mountain” or “peak”, so, “snow peak”.
As Nepal is protected by mountains, I chose a name that signified its beauty and protection, something very symbolic to our country and culture.
Since my interest in coffee began, I have enjoyed every aspect of it. The whole process and roasting are great because you feel and smell it all coming together. I enjoy learning more about it, how I can better add more value to the overall taste of the coffee.

Impact & gender
As chairman for Gowanv Khola Youth Club, I made a conscious decision to employ as many women and young professionals as possible in my business. We also try to make sure that Himshikhar coffee is processed carefully.
Recently, we helped a disabled person by supporting their medical expenses. Himshikhar covered the cost through donations, and the experience made me want to continue doing similar work in the community. In the future, I plan to donate a portion of our profits to support community causes.
We have five employees; three are women. We have qualified baristas. We support our staff by:
• Paying above market and government rates
• Supporting skill development
• Providing a provident fund (pension)
