The Ceramics room is operated under the ELS umbrella (as are many amenities for our community). ELS Management provides only the physical space and kiln maintenance for the ceramics room. Otherwise Ceramics is self-funded for supplies.
The Ceramics room is open to homeowners at Mid Florida Lakes after completing the required orientation. There is a $3 weekly fee for paints and supplies provided by the Ceramics room. Our week starts on Sunday. The fee is required even if you paint only one day of that week and is good for up to all seven days ending in Saturday of the same week, starting all over again with a new $3 weekly fee on the next Sunday. If you use an excessive amount of paint or supplies, please add to your fee amount to cover expenses. Again, we are self-funded.
We have the following available for our use: OS Stains, Donas, Fashenhues, Patio Paints, Gloss Enamels, CCs, CNs, Doc Holiday, EZ Stroke, Stroke and Coat, Antiquing Solution, Glitter, Metallics, Stoneware glaze and other supplies needed for our projects.
There are cleaning tools, brushes, glazes and specialty products also available for purchase. Bisque/stoneware can be purchased from reliable sources in the area. We do not pour in our facility. We do not wheel throw.
You must be knowledgeable in the art of ceramics to work alone in the room.
The kilns are not to be opened or emptied by anyone other than those authorized.
We have Duncan and Mayco Partners in Education certified instructors who belong to state and national fired arts organizations that can assist with creating your projects. Monthly project plans and pop up classes are offered.
We have limited shelf space. Each person is allotted one shelf to store their items. If you are not active for more than one month (snowbirds excluded) you will be asked to remove your supplies and bring them in when you come to work on a project.
As a group, we actively participate in community functions. We host a twice-yearly craft fair for the community and beyond and regularly host Food Before Bingo meal service.
